Animal Control

Mountain Grove’s Animal Control Department exists to enforce animal welfare, respond to calls for service regarding stray, sick, or dangerous animals, investigate cruelty and neglect, and provide community education on responsible pet ownership inside the city limits of Mountain Grove, Missouri. 

 Our animal shelter is located at 614 E. State St in the Cedar Center.

    The Animal Control Officer (ACO) maintains a Facebook page (City of Mountain Grove, MO Animal Control) displaying animals that have been impounded. Any animals available for reclaim or adoption will be posted on the Facebook page, or you may contact the ACO directly by calling 417-926-5181.

 If you have lost a pet, please report it to Animal Control by texting “Lost Animal” to

Animal Licensing

All dogs kept inside the city limits of Mountain Grove are required to be licensed  with the city. 
Cats permitted to run at large within the city limits are required to be licensed with the city.
A valid certificate of rabies vaccination from a veterinarian is required for all animals that are being licensed.

City Animal Licenses can be obtained at the Mountain Grove Police Department during normal operation hours.

Dog  Annual License:

$10.00 not Spayed or Neutered

$5.00 Spayed or Neutered

Required Yearly Between March 1st – March 31st (A late fee will be applied beginning April 1st)

Dog Permanent License:

Free

Dogs must be microchipped with current owner information. Microchip number must be verified by the ACO before the license will be approved. License expires when rabies vaccination is due.

Cat Permanent License:

Free

Cats must be spayed or neutered and microchipped with current owner information. Microchip number must be verified by the ACO before the license will be approved. License expires when rabies vaccination is due.
